Youth development in Ghetto

Christopher Mokoti has formed youth football development structure which is aimed at identifying talent at rural villages in North East District.

The current structure involves girls under the ages of 13, 15 and 20 while for the boys is under 15 and 23, with players being recruited from Siviya, Tsamaya and Senyawe village.

Mokoti of Ghetto Stars told Voice Sport this week that after the talent search, they train and develop players’ football skills, as he wants his teams to be feeders to premier league teams.

“This will also make it easy for junior national teams’ coaches to recruit players. Francistown league teams have not done well in the past season, so with this development structures we can unearth talent”, stated Mokoti

“We obviously have challenges and this project need patience. Our long term plan is to have an academy and have already planned a trip to visit Aces academy in Zimbabwe to benchmark and find ways of achieving our goal.”

Mokoti revealed that their main challenge was shortage of training grounds, which has forced them to use the Francistown stadium while the league is on break.

He said they are also failing to keep key of players who instead prefer to join the constituency league.

The Ghetto Stars founder further revealed that in the mean time management runs the project from their pocket, but have also requested P5, 800 as sponsorship from different companies so that they can register and affiliate to BFA third division.

He added that they are currently working on strengthening their structures so that they can be able to solicit sponsors.
‘We have resorted to organizing friendly games against other region development structures to give our players game time and also exposure.

Fortunately Francistown now have Women League which we hope it will absorb girls from our structures.’ He added

Godfrey Ntuane who has been trained under British Council premier skills is the current teams’ coach.
