The body of a woman suspected to have died from drinking illicit traditional brew known as ‘Power’ is lying at Thamaga hospital awaiting post mortem.
The 55-year old woman’s body was found by the roadside in Thamaga village at around 9pm yesterday by a passerby who immediately reported the matter to the police.
The lifeless body was then taken to the hospital where it was certified dead upon arrival.
The woman’s 63-year old boyfriend reported that she left their home at Sau ward for the shebeen where she drank illicit alcohol.
He told the police that she left home after eating some porridge and vegetables and that at the shebeen she drank home brewed power beer and khadi.
Thamaga police Station Commander, Superintendent Moses Makgoeng, confirmed the incident but said they were awaiting offial confirmation. “We are still awaiting the post mortem report before we can be certain of the cause of her death,” he said.
