Only 11 make the cut as Miss Botswana Auditions enter last lap
With just the Gaborone lap left of the Miss Botswana auditions, Voice Entertainment can exclusively reveal that so far only 11 ladies have made the cut.
In their search for the fairest in the land, the beauty pageant has visited Gantsi, Maun, Francistown, Selibe Phikwe and Palapye.
The ‘countrywide’ tour has endured a disappointing turnout, with just three ladies taking part in the Maun leg – embarrassingly that’s three more than made it in Gantsi where no one auditioned!
Giving Voice Entertainment a break down of the numbers, the pageant’s newly appointed mouthpiece, Pauline Dikuelo said, “In Maun only one of the three that showed up met the requirements while in Gantsi unfortunately no one turned up.
“For the Palapye leg only four of the 33 ladies that turned up met the requirements whilst in Selibe Phikwe three out of the 15 made the cut. Lastly, in Francistown out of the 32 only three made the cut,” revealed the Miss Botswana Public Relations Executive.
Attempting to salvage some positives, Dikuelo said organisers were confident of a better showing when the auditions roll into the capital next weekend.
Set for 19, 20 and 21st of July, the auditions will be held at Cresta Lodge.
“It is true only 11 ladies have so far met the requirements but we are still optimistic for a larger turn out in Gaborone next week. We decided to move the auditions dates to next week because of the holidays as they were initially scheduled for this weekend,” explained Dikuelo.
The apparent lack of interest continues a worrying trend for Miss Botswana, with last year’s event descending into farce when just four girls participated in the final. In the end Maun native, Moitshepi Elias was crowned the queen of the quartet.
This year’s grand finale is scheduled for August 17, with build-up events such as the Miss Botswana Fashion Show on July 27 followed by the final contestants bootcamp from 11 August until the grand finale.
The winner will take part in Miss World 2019, to be held in London, England in December.
