Excited members of the Kanye community this week congregated to witness Vivo Energy Botswana launch yet another service station.
The teeming official site opening of the Bangwaketse Service Station was graced by the presence of a multitude of dignitaries including Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng, Kgosikgolo wa Bangwaketse Malope and the Managing Director of Vivo Energy, Wayne Kingwill.
The Service Station is owned and managed by Gofa Motsosi who commenced his employment at Shell as a humble petrol attendant but rapidly rose to his current position through Vivo’s Citizen Empowerment Retailer Programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Managing Director of Vivo Energy, Wayne Kingwill, remarked that, “The Young Retailer Programme was created to empower young Indigenous Batswana through a Youth Retailer Programme that allows them to learn the business, own the business, be mentored by us and maintain the business.”
The Citizen Empowerment Retailer Programme begins with Vivo Energy selecting the best performing Quality Marshals from across the country with the aid of a multitude of criteria points.
These points include but are not limited to; site volume and customer value propositions displayed by the Quality Manager.
Eight quality managers were interviewed and three were shortlisted.
The three were then asked to present business plans which would eventually see Gofa Motsosi’s plan prevailing as the best.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng, was particularly impressed with Vivo Energy’s efforts to promote the youth.
Speaking at the Bangwaketse Service Station, he said,“Today’s event is a demonstration of Vivo Energy’s commitment to investing in the energy sector of the economy as well as the empowerment of youth. The introduction of the Young Retailer Programme at Vivo Energy Botswana, Shell licensee is yet another way of showing Shell’s continuous strides at innovation.”
The minister was taken aback by this initiative so much so that he went to the extent of expressing his satisfaction with Vivo on his personal Facebook page.
There are currently three youth members including Motsosi who have benefitted from Vivo’s benevolence.
