Accommodation facilities in Maun are said to be fully booked as members of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) descend in the tourism capital today for this evening’s fundraising dinner and tomorrow’s launch of the party’s campaign manifesto for 2019 general elections.
The Party’s Publicity Secretary, Moeti Mohwasa, has confirmed that, ”Yes we have been informed that accommodation is full, but you have to note that we have arranged for accommodation in schools, those booking in hotels are doing so at their own costs. The accommodation at schools is enough to cover our members who will be attending the launch.”
UDC expects to raise good money to help them kick start the campaign well ahead of the October general elections.
Allegedly, former state president, Seretse Khama Ian Khama is expected to grace the event, an allegation Mohwasa could not flatly deny or confirm, “What I can tell you is that, Khama has not been invited to any of our events.”
Khama who is seemingly bent on ensuring that his successor, Mokgweetsi Masisi and the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) do not retain power after the October general elections, is said to have expressed his desire to attend the UDC manifesto launch on Saturday at the Maun sports complex.
