Mogonono lands residents in the Kweneng district will breathe a sigh of relief for a while after Molepolole Magistrate, Rosemary Khuto this week ordered a 35-year-old suspected illegal sand miner to be locked up for arson.
Tennyson Ngwenya, on March 27th, 2019 at Mogonono lands is suspected to have willingly set on fire the hut belonging to Kelemogile Batsietsi causing damage to properties amounting to P14 020.00.

Pleading with the court to remand Ngwenya in jail, Prosecutor Sub Inspector Moshe Karabo said, “Furthermore there are more cases of similar offence likely to be added to the charge and we fear that should he be released on bail he is likely to cause more damages since the police have been dealing with one case of arson after another.”
One of Ngwenya’s victims 79-year-old Goitsemodimo Motsewabeng said after she got wind of the arsonist’s plans to burn his home, he took his wife and sought refuge at the neighbors.
“The arsonist however followed us to the neighbours armed with an axe so we ran for dear life,” said frightened Goitsemodimo.
His wife 69-year-old wife, Mmankololwane Motsewabeng sadly told of how the family household items including beds, blankets, and grocery from one hut together with 30 bags of cattle feed, two big tents and a bicycle in the inferno.
Magistrate Khuto has ordered that Ngwenya be locked up till he comes back to court on May 14th, 2019.
