Ask Gase

Dear Gase, I’m in a relationship (6yrs) with one lovely lady.

She recently found one gentleman in my house whom I have befriended because we have the same business interests and now she wants me to choose between the two relationships.

Apparently she once dated this guy; she told me this after I had already invested thousands in this guy’s venture ….what do I do?

Your “lovely lady” must learn that your personal relationships and your business relationships are two separate things; she has no right to make you choose between your relationship with her and your business relationship, Is she going to ban you from associating with anyone who’s her ex?

Unless you can and you want to withdraw your investment in this guy’s venture, just tell your girlfriend that it’s done and she’ll have to learn to live with it.

To me, it really doesn’t make sense for you to even consider ending a business relationship just because your girlfriend doesn’t want you partnering for business with an ex of hers.

Your investment in this venture has got nothing to do with her and she must stay out of it.

If she dislikes her ex for reasons best known to her, she must just find a way to avoid coming into contact with him in the future.

Whatever conclusion you arrive at, just remember that if you want to succeed in life, you need to keep your personal relationships out of your business ventures.

Ultimately, the decision is yours, whether or not you’re going to allow her to dictate to you who you do or do not do business with, but just know that it makes you a very weak businessman to make that kind of judgement or to take business decisions based on the whims of a girlfriend.
