Singing sensation Shanti Lo’s star continues to shine as he heads for international recognition with shows in Namibia and Sweden lined up in the next few weeks.
Shanti will travel with his full band to Windhoek and perform alongside Namibian singer Sandra Van Roof and other Namibian artists on 22 July. Namibian artists will come to Botswana at a later date and perform with Shanti.
But by far the singer’s biggest international gig to date will be his appearance at the annual Stockholm Pride Festival in Sweden from 1-7August.
Since its start in 1998, Stockholm Pride has grown to be one of Stockholm’s largest annual festivals, as well as the largest Gay Pride celebration in Scandinavia. The theme for this year’s festival is “Openness” and as a statement on the festivals web site explained: “To Stockholm Pride “Openness” is more about what you do, than who you are. The ability to see beyond what society considers “normal”, and to understand that there is more than one kind of love, more than one way of life and more than one kind of family.”
The understandably ‘thrilled’ singer will travel with guitarist and producer of his album (Lerato) John Selolwane and his manager Soares Katumbela.
There will be a local band waiting for him in Sweden with top of the range renowned Swedish jazz musicians. The trip to Sweden will be the start of longer-term collaboration with Swedish musicians, with the plan is to also bring the Swedish musicians to Botswana at the end of November this year.
On Friday evening Shanti Lo and his Botswana band will give a concert at Maitisong theatre to celebrate and raise funds for the tour.
