Over the weekend, Ghetto Sharks Rugby Club hosted 12 teams tournament which was meant to select 7s national team which will play annual tournament sponsored by confederation of African Rugby at Zambia on the 27 of September. Selected Twenty players will go for a camp and will be trimmed to 12 to form a final squad. The tournament started with 12 teams divided into two pools A and B, 3 top teams in each pool qualified for the quarter finals. EMG, BDF Cheetahs, Gaborone Hogs, Tuskers, Whales from Thebephatshwa and the host Sharks reached the quarter finals. BDF Cheetah reached the finals after beating their rivals Whales 24-5 and the Rugby league champions Gaborone Hogs walloped Tuskers 52-0. The Cheetahs gave the champions a tough game going for a half time leading 21-0, 2nd half Hogs improved the attack and managed to score at least 7 goals. The game ended with 33-7 giving the Cheetahs a win. Speaking after the tournament, Botswana Rugby Union president Bob Lekang said he have hope and believe the players which were selected will represent the country well and he have no doubt that they bring medals home. “I believe the players we chose today will do their best in Zambia and make us proud. We choose them because of the skills they have shown and their performance. The team will be under the care of the 7s head coach, Mooketsi Ramakele, Assistant coach Jerry Mooketsi who have an experience, once played for the 7s squad and the manager Donald Kadima,” said Lekang.
