Trucha promises a clean sweep in 2019/20
The Botswana Premier League Defending Champions, Township Rollers have started the 2019/20 pre-season in earnest with the appointment of a new coach following the departure of Rodolfo Zappata.
The 16 times league Champions have roped in Czech Republican Thomas Trucha to replace the Argentinian on a two year deal. According to club President Jagdish Shah, the contract will be renewed based on the coach’s performance.
In addition to the new look technical bench, Rollers brought back prodigal son Zacharia Mudzadzi as an assistant coach.
Mudzadzi, a Mochudi Centre Chiefs legend was Madinda Ndlovu’s assistant when the Zimbabwean tactician was at the helm of the Gaborone giants.
The two would then relocate to Orapa, where they turned The Ostritches into a formidable force and a giant killer.
Welcoming the new coach, Shah reminded him that Rollers is a big and an ambitious brand with a winning mentality.
“When the team loses our supporters get frustrated and they will turn their anger and frustrations towards you. You should be prepared for that,” warned Shah.
The coach is expected to emulate or surpass Serbian Nikola Kavazovic and take Rollers to the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
Trucha’s first official match will be a CAF encounter sometime in August.
Accepting the challenge, Trucha promised Rollers supporters that he’ll defend and claim Rollers’ fifth consecutive league Championship.
“We’ll win the 2019/2020 Premier League, Orange FA Cup, Mascom Top 8 and reach the group stages of CAF,” said a confident Trucha.
The Czech said he’s expecting to be challenged all the way by Gaborone United, Orapa United and Jwaneng Galaxy.
“I’m grateful to the management for organising friendly matches as this help me to try out a few combinations and be in a position to gauge our strength. Botswana league is very competitive and tricky so I’ll not underestimate any team,” he said.
Revealing the team’s pre-season schedule, Shah said Rollers will head out to Rustenburg on the 13th to the 19th of July where they will undergo intensive training.
“We’re also scheduled to play Kaizer Chiefs on 20th July in Gaborone as part of our preparations. Hopefully the match will be played at our new facility in Tlokweng,” said Shah.
The Rollers President further revealed that the club has released Oscar Ncenga, Thato Bolweleng, Mirror Simanyana, Ivan Ntenge and Tshepo Motlhabankwe who retired at the end of the season.
The team also lost Mosha Gaolaolwe and Gape Mohutsiwa who have joined TS Galaxy FC in South Africa’s National First Division.
