Controversial Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) politician, Phagenyana Phage, this weekend threw blistering verbal salvos at his party’s political rivals, calling on fellow opposition- the Alliance for Progressives (AP) to disband and join the umbrella project.
Amid the cheers and jeers that characterized the launch of UDC candidates for Gaborone South constituency on Saturday, Phage implored his party leader- Duma Boko, to allow him to deal with AP leader, Ndaba Gaolathe as he believed he was the right person to do so.
Phage said that in dealing with Ndaba he was going to ask him who he was going to form a coalition with in case of a hung parliament. “We want to know who AP are going to align with if we have a coalition. Phatlalatsang golo moo, there is no time to play, we want government,” he charged.
He further asked Boko to deal with President Mokgweetsi Masisi and leave party Vice President, Dumelang Saleshando, to deal with policies.
Phage urged Gaborone South voters to vote for UDC parliamentary candidate, Nelson Ramaotwana, describing him as a lawyer with a good track record unlike his counterpart and also Botswana Democratic Party ‘s parliamentary candidate, Dumazile Mthimkulu. “Mthimkulu o tsietsa batho,” said Phage who ended his speech by pleading with their former member- Lotty Manyapetsa, who defected to the ruling party, to trace his steps back as he has been forgiven. “Come back Lotty, Saleshando has forgiven you including Thato Osupile who left with the party’s stationery.”
