Suspected girfriend killer remanded in custody
Former soldier, Simba Mampori who is accused of murdering four women suspected to be his girlfriends was further remanded in custody on Wednesday morning.
31-year-old Mampori of Mbalambi Village allegedly murdered a 34-year-old woman of Bontleng in Gaborone.
The offence occurred on the 31st of March 2019 and police suspected the victim was his girlfriend.
After the incident, the accused allegedly tried to commit suicide but the rope he was using broke and his relatives took him to the hospital where he was treated and discharged.
Mampori was also linked to another murder that happened on the 26th of March 2019 in which a 39-year-old woman of Molepolole was found dead with stab wounds.
When he was arrested Mampori was awaiting trial for two other murder cases committed in Mahalapye and Gaborone in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Police suspect all the victims were his girlfriends.
State Prosecutor, Superintendent Tlotlang Balathwa told court that investigations were at an advanced stage.
He said postmoterm has been done and they were waiting DNA results.
Balathwa applied for further detention pending completion of investigations.
Magistrate Batho Kgerethwa agreed to give prosecution more time to complete their investigations and ordered that the accused person come back to court on the 2nd of May for status hearing.
