Relegated Notwane has not started the Debswana South First Division League well as they registered second loss on Sunday when they were defeated 2-1 by United Flamingo Santos at SSG grounds.
Santos was the first to find the back of the net through Bosa Mokgweetsi. Few minutes before end of second half Kagiso Medupe scored their second goal.
The game went to half time with Santos leading 2-0. In the first five minutes of the game Medupe fouled Mbuqe Sithembile in the penalty box and Thabo Mbole converted it. The game was full of rough tackles forcing the referee to give two players marching orders from both teams.
Christopher Lemme of Santos was cautioned for simulation while Tsimi Dieduonne of Notwane for late tackle. Speaking after the game Notwane coach Thatayaone Mothuba said his boys did not come to the party.
He said he could not single out a player but the whole team did not play well. He said the players took the game light and perhaps undermined Santos.
“After scoring a goal that’s when they tried to up their game to at least equalize and get a point but it was not easy to penetrate Santos defence. I was forced to make goalkeeper substitution due to injury which also complicated our game plan.
It is our second loss and it is slowly putting us under pressure more so that most of the players are young boys who might not handle the pressure. We need to at least win a game to uplift the morale of the team otherwise it is going to be tough season,” said Mothuba
Santos mentor Innocent Ranku said they came into the game with the intension to score an early goal and managed to get it mid first half. He said he is trying by all means to adapt to the style of power play which is being used by most of the teams in first division.
Coach said injuries and a red card will affect his plans coming to the next game. He said one striker got injured and the other one was given marching orders and it is going to be difficult to find their replacement.
