Northern trade fair plan tasty additions

The 2019 Business Botswana Northern Trade Fair (BBNTF) looks set to sparkle with exciting new events added to the packed programme.

Scheduled for the 29 May to June 2, this year’s edition marks the fair’s 25th installment and includes a Networking Forum as well as a Wine and Cheese tasting session.

As in previous years, the trade fair will take place in Francistown at Business Botswana’s spacious Gerald Estates’ Showgrounds.

The Chinese Ambassador to Botswana, Doc Zhao Yanbo has been confirmed as the Guest Speaker.

Meeting with Voice Money this week, Business Botswana Regional Manager, Eileen Van Der Est revealed the theme for this year’s fair is ‘Innovate, Integrate, Industrialise’.

“Innovate in that we are calling upon businesses to come up with new ideas. Integrate in terms of looking at how Botswana’s businessmen and women can use the country’s raw materials. Also, as businesses grow they can have many industries thus leading to creation of employment,” she explained of the theme.

The regional boss added that 130 stalls have currently been booked but stressed there was still space available.

“Our stalls are sold at different rates. For small businesses it’s P2, 200 while bigger, more established companies pay P8, 500. A spot inside the tent will cost you P11, 450,” she said, adding that unlike last year, entry to the public is free.

As is tradition, the fair starts with the judging of stalls. This will be followed by a breakfast seminar run by Naftec.

“The 30th of May is business networking run by different presenters on different topics. There will also be a seminar by the University of Botswana and giving away of free stalls to youth who are Business Botswana members,” continued Van Der Est.

The Wine and Cheese tasting session is scheduled for 31 May and takes place at the Marang Hotel. Set for a 5pm start, tickets for the event come with a P200 price tag.

Weekend activities include a golf tournament on Saturday (June 1) at Tantabane Golf Range as well as a cycle race (a popular feature of last year’s event) with the Showgrounds as the starting point.

The day concludes with the ever-popular Prize Giving ceremony, which will be held at Adansonia Hotel.

Van Der Est closed by stating that their partners this year are: The Voice, Weekend post, Adansonia hotel, Fun hire, Skip hire, Dj Cue and Cresta Hotel.
