Nine security officers in court for murder
ACCUSED: Security officers

Nine Jay Guard Security officers accused of beating a suspected thief to death appeared in court on Tuesday charged with Murder.

Lemogang Keothopile, Tashaha Amon, Keabetswe Kgodumo, Martin Mooketsi, Mpho Kelego, Monkgogi Oagile, Onkabetse Tshipiyagae, Babolotse Mothobi and Eddy Gadiwele were denied bail and sent back to jail to wait for their next court date, which is April the 4th.

The security officers are suspected to have killed Tiroyamodimo Marokolo on Saturday around 9pm at Water Affairs Headquarters in Gaborone.

It is alleged the guards were on night duty when Marokolo entered one of the storerooms with the intention to steal and they caught him and beat him to death.

State Prosecutor Inspector Peter Tapela Simisani pleaded with court not to grant the accused bail saying the case is new and they have just started their investigations.

He said the offence was very serious and that they need more time to complete their investigations.

“This is a fresh matter and we are yet to establish and interview possible witnesses. The accused says the deceased was not alone so we are still looking for the two other suspects who managed to escape. We are also waiting for the postmortem results which will reveal the cause of death,” said Simisani

Extension II Court Magistrate, Ntombizodwa Ncube denied them bail.
