Lobelo Racing Club of Francistown will this weekend have a 12 strong team at Round 2 of the National MX Championships in Gaborone.
Speaking to Voice Sport on Wednesday afternoon the club’s spokesperson Lola Berrie said they have high hopes that some of the riders will make the Botswana team that will compete in the African Cup of Nations in Kenya later this year.
“Points from this race will count towards qualification for the continental championship. The first race of the new season was held in Francistown last month and points accumulated from that race will be added to those from the weekend event and with the most points will be selected for the team. We are confident some of our members will make the team,” Berrie said.
Lobelo will be pinning their hopes for attempt at continental glory on the likes of celebrated rider Clayton Davies, Wayne Berrie, Wade Swanepoel, François Jacobs, Henry Schwartzkoph and the veteran Calvin Collington in the men’s categories.
They will also hope that Nathan Berrie and the Parekh do them proud and qualify as junior riders while Lola Berrie and Casey Copp will race in Ladies MX class.
The youngest team members will Tristan Berrie and Deegan Davies who will be racing in the PW50 category.
On another note Lobelo Mouthpiece Berrie said the number of riders the Ghetto riding club takes to Kenya will depend on how much money the club has,
“The budget will determine how many riders we can take to Kenya, so we do not know how many from each class will be chosen” she said.
