A rapist already serving a ten-year-sentence has added to his list of convictions when he was found guilty on two counts of housebreaking and theft.
Tibidikwe Monaatlala, 38, of Sedie ward in Maun was given an additional three years in prison and four strokes after he pleaded guilty to breaking into a house and stealing a television and VCR.
Frustrated Maun Magistrate Mmoloki Sibanda said that the convict deserved no mercy as he had abused the court’s leniency on several occasions. He said that since his first theft conviction in 1999 the court had been giving him suspended sentences and corporal punishment in the hope that he would reform.
“At that time you were still in your 20’s and we believed that you were being influenced by immaturity. That didn’t work. This time an additional sentence mingled with corporal punishment will be appropriate to serve as a deterrent to you and others who may want to commit similar offences in future,” he said.
