Both Private and Public media left with their tails between their legs after President Ian Khama chased them out of the 54th Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Special Congress at Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School.
Despite the media being invited to the Congress under the impression that they will attend the official opening today, President Khama said they were changing how they do things this year.
“Usually we have the official opening address by me and then the Secretary General before our members are given a chance to comment on issues.
Today we are going to to break you into regional groups to go and discuss what you think can be done, then tomorrow chairpersons of the regions can present.
In that way everyone will have a say, and because of this the media, both Public and Private will have to excuse us because this is a closed session,” said Khama.
Meanwhile during his welcome remarks, the BDP Chairman and Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi took a swipe at the BMD members.
He said during their formation in Mogoditshane they were of the view that the Party President should not have powers.
“Right now they are the ones fighting for the President to have powers, therefore their existence does not hold water anymore.
Even their President Ndaba said in his NEC he sees a bunch of clowns,” stated Masisi.
The VP further pleaded with his fellow Democrats ahead of the 2019 elections to frustrate the already wounded BMD even more in all the ways possible but not join them.
