Limkokwing makes an impact at the inaugural market day
Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, made a huge impact among the small scale entrepreneurs at the inaugural poverty eradication market day, which was held on April 1st 2011 at the Gaborone Senior Secondary Grounds.
The University was the only learning institution that was selected to be a part of this historic day which was initiated by Office of the President and was intended to showcase and test the market with micro business owners, selling and marketing Made in Botswana products like agricultural produce, artifacts as well as small stock to the public and businesses.
Speaking about their contribution and their impact at the event, Limkokwing University Public Relations Manager Mercy Bonnie Thebe said that, as the only University of Creative Technology, they were honored by the invitation they received from the OP to be a part of this event.
She said they used the opportunity to sensitize the small business owners about the importance of corporate identity. She explained that they set up a Limkokwing Innovation Branding Centre where they brought in students and staff from the Faculty of Design Innovation, as well as graphic designers to teach the small business owners about basic concepts of marketing, packaging, and corporate branding.
“We also brought in samples of our own student’s works so that the small business owners could draw inspiration on how they can develop their products and place them in the industry in an innovative and profitable way”, said Thebe.
One of the entrepreneurs who was selling comb honey Thabo Disele said he was grateful for the information he received from Limkokwing, which he said, was going to help him take his business to the next level as he realized the importance of how packaging and branding could help his product compete with other brands.
The event was attended by President Seretse Khama Ian Khama, members of the Cabinet, Parastatal organizations, Financial Aid Scheme Companies as well as members of the public.
