Students from the “Diamond Narcotics Anti Club” consisting of students from Sua Junior Secondary School, Nata Senior Secondary School and from YWCA of Botswana.

Focused Youth International Weekend was a great success with students coming from as far afield as Nata and Sua. The Nata Police sponsored their transport, fuel and driver. Department of Youth very generously sponsored the students’ accommodation at UB and food enabling BOSASNet and Focused Youth International to hold a comprehensive and interactive workshop for the students. The workshop started on the Saturday morning with Youth International giving the students the tools to help them discover and define a worthy focus around which would enable them through systematic personal development to achieve their goals in life.

The students by the end of the programme were able to present to the whole group what their mission, vision and values were in life and enabled them to start living their lives with this new focus.
BOSASNet gave an interactive presentation to the students by one of our councellors engaging them in effects of substance use, abuse and dependency.
The students were then shown a movie on substance abuse followed by an open discussion. The students came away with a new found awareness and knowledge of their contact with substance abuse and how to deal with future situations both individually, in the family and within the nation of Botswana.

We at BOSASNet would like to express our admiration for this group of students who approached their teachers wanting to take part in the workshop having read about the Substance Abuse Awareness Month in The Voice. We were very sad to see them leave on the Sunday but excited at the prospect of them sharing what they had learnt with their fellow students in Nata and Sua.
