Cops in hunt for suspected killer
Police in Shoshong are on the hunt for a 36-year-old man suspected to have killed a young woman for apparently rejecting his love proposal.
Tshireletso Gomoya of Otse village in the Central District fled after attacking Resego Lesika Kopaditlhare, 20, with an axe last Tuesday.
“We are still looking for the suspect and pleading with members of the public to help in the search. At this stage we are dealing with a suspect and we cannot really tell what triggered the attack as all the eye witnesses are minors,” explained Shoshong Police station Commander, Superintendent Gaontebale Mathonse.
The brutal assault, which occurred at Palama-o-kue cattlepost a few kilometres outside Shoshong village, was carried out in front of the woman’s four year-old daughter and her two young nephews who alerted the neighbours.
“The eldest who is only five arrived first, screaming and shouting for help. When I was trying to make sense of what he was saying, the woman’s distraught daughter dashed in and gripped tightly to my skirt. She said that Tshireletso had hit her mother with an axe,” explained neighbour Oatametse Tlale, 59.
She and her husband Tebatso rushed to the scene only to find the young woman sprawled on the ground with the weapon lying next to her body.
Resego was rushed to hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
The girl’s parents Sesafekeng, 57, and Kebuseng Kopaditlhare, 37, were too distressed to speak.
Gomoya was hired by the Tlale’s a month and half ago to look after their cattle.
