With the intention to finally affiliate with Botswana National Sports Council, Francistown pool mini league has taken off to a good start.

The mini league’s first round commenced on 14th February with 10 registered teams and will, “Break on 19th April where we’d take stock and prepare for the second round,” said the League President David Letsholathebe.

The newly elected president said they came up with the idea of a well organised league to tap into a pool of talent in the city.

He said they started way back in 2013 with mini tournaments and friendly matches around Francistown and surrounding areas.

“Each team had to pay P500 to register for a tournament or match and this proved costly as we had competition every weekend. That is when an idea of a more advanced league was conceived,” said Letsholathebe.

The ten teams come from Francistown and its outskirts like Matshelagabedi and Shashemooke.

“We decided to call it a mini league until such time we are affiliated to BNSC,” added Letsholathebe.

While the mini-league is yet to find a sponsor, the president said he is hopefully that someone will come on board and give them a shot in the arm.

“We are self sponsored, teams forked out P1000 each as registration fee and this is the money we use to run the league on a weekly basis,” he said.

Letsholathebe said their encounters take place at selected bars where patrons are treated to a free and intense game of pool.

“We are however working on attracting more youth to the game, by moving the games from bars to neutral places like recreational centres,” he said.

Both teams at are tied at the summit of the log with 12 points with Big N Bold holding a superior goal difference.
