Although Fifi Afrika is not yet a household name – until recently she went by the stage name ‘Princess’ – her star is on the up and rising fast.
The singer, who received critical acclaim for her stirring performance at last weekend’s celebrity wedding held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre, has released an exciting new single ‘Do I’.
It appears the talented performer is finally focusing on releasing more music, her spark seemingly ignited by her 2017 hit ‘Wena’.
The bubbly artist has long been contracted to sing at some of the country’s biggest parties, where her microphone is usually set up with a two-piece band before the glaring eyes of those who have flocked the place just to see her.
Alternatively, those that are hearing her soothing tones for the first time often ask for her details, apparently mesmerised by the beauty in her voice.
She first graced television screens with her feature song with Dj Skii dubbed ‘Why do you come here?’ which instantly shot her to fame. She later took a break from releasing any music before returning with banger singles, including ‘Wena’.
The songbird, who is in the running for four Botswana Musicians Union Awards (BOMU) and the much talked about Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMAs), recently spoke to Voice Entertainment about her new project.
Asked what inspired her latest single, which has attracted a lot of social media attention, Fifi Afrika said, “I wanted the video to have a feel of live and jazz, that’s why the whole black and white theme in the video. I wanted to dare be different from the rest, locally and also be able to compete internationally.”
The video can be viewed on YouTube, with the initial feedback from fans overwhelmingly positive.
