A 44-year-old man who allegedly threatened to kill his own son has been remanded in custody to give way for police investigations.
Moganetsi Mmelesi of Mokgalo ward, Lentsweletau is said to have threatened to kill his 9-year-old son following a heated dispute with his girlfriend over the boy’s custody.
A court ruling on the custody matter had been set for April 10th, 2019, but on March 29th, 2019, Mmelesi is said to have uttered the threats to his son’s uncle, Johnson Matsotsi. He is said to have uttered the words; “ke a go bolaya motlogolo wa gago” meaning ‘I am going to kill your nephew’.
When dismissing the bail application, Molepolole Chief Magistrate Goabaone Rammapudi considered the prosecution’s concerns that the accused might undertake the threat and that the minor may be vulnerable and killed if exposed to the accused.
“There is a high number of cases of this kind as well as murder cases, especially in the Kweneng area. Therefore the court cannot allow such incidences, I order that the accused’s bail application be dismissed and he be remanded in custody till the finalisation of this matter,” the magistrate ruled.
The case continues on July 11th when Mmelesi will be appearing for mention.
