Double devastation
CONFIRMING THE TRAGEDY: Burns

Man loses father and son on same day

A 49-year-old man from Molepolole is coming to terms with the double devastation of his father and son dying on the very same day.

Sunday 30 June 2019 will forever be etched into Obusitswe Letina’s grieving heart.

Letina was working at the lands when relatives came to inform him that his father, who had been ill for a long time, had passed away earlier in the day.

He then returned to the family home in Molepolole’s Goo-Kodisa Ward to tell his son, 23-year-old Bakang Mokgweetsi Letina the bad news.

Taking up the narrative, Molepolole Police Superintendent Lebani Burns explained that as soon as Letina arrived home he went to Bakang’s room, which was unlocked.

“Upon entering the young man’s room, he found his son hanging from the rafters!”

According to the top cop, Bakang was discovered with a red plastic rope tied around his neck.

“He was taken to Scottish Livingstone Hospital where he was certified dead by the medical doctor upon arrival,” added Burns.

Sources close to the scene believe Bakang, who was a popular taxi driver in the village, committed suicide after an argument with his baby mama’s mother.

“The old woman chased him away from their home and he was worried he wouldn’t be able to see his son again,” said the source, speaking to The Voice on condition of anonymity.

“Bakang had a strong relationship with his baby mama. I even recall the other time the girlfriend went to the police to pay for him after he was charged for drunken driving. He just wondered if it will be easy for him to see his child as usual and if the bond he had with the child will continue to be strong when the child’s grandmother had told him to stop entering his yard,” continued the source, shaking his head sadly, his voice breaking with emotion as he adds Bakang was unaware his grandfather had died when he hanged himself.

Bakang and his grandfather were buried at the weekend.
