Despite his move to South African side TS Galaxy falling through at the last minute, Jwaneng Galaxy’s Thero ‘Mahachi’ Setsile, 23, has been in red-hot form on the pitch.
The speedy striker’s brace in Galaxy’s 3-0 victory over Mochudi Centre Chiefs last week took his tally for the season to 16, making him the BTC Premier League’s top scorer with just three games to go.
Here, the Maun-born national team forward takes a short break from terrorising defences to talk to CELEB EDITION.
Tell us about your journey in professional football?
I started my professional football at Tasc in Francistown, followed by a short stint with Sankoyo Bush Bucks.
I left them soon after they were promoted to the top league, to join the club where I am now, Jwaneng Galaxy.
If you were not a professional footballer what do you think you would be doing?
Hmmmm; I would say something to do with farming!
If you were not playing for Galaxy which team would you want to play for?
I would be playing for Townships Rollers.
What qualities do you think one must have to be a great footballer?
Self-discipline on and off the field. Hard work and also make more time for your own training.
Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?
Obviously Lionel Messi.
Tell us about one game you will never forget, where you had a shocker?
I would say it was when we were playing against Burkina Faso at Ouagadougou.
Before the game, Mpho Bogopa, our team doctor and Mogakolodi Ngele were all over me, telling me to sleep early because I would be facing Traore (Bertrand).
And on that day I remember Traore was on top of his game (the Zebras lost 3-0 with Traore scoring the third). But I never bow down my head.
I keep believing that I can become a great player through my mistakes.
Traditional wedding or white wedding?
Hmmm, I would say white wedding over traditional.
Nike or Adidas?
What qualities must a coach possess to ensure a good working relationship with players?
It is all about understanding the vision of the club or the collective as coaches and players and not putting personal matters before the game.
It’s important to respect each other and be professional.
