Before the Annual General Meeting, Botswana National Sports Council held a
sports quiz competition last Friday in Francistown in which primary, junior and senior schools participated. The quiz was conducted by BNSC Affiliates Affairs Officer Mojaboswa Marco Maje.
Speaking after the competition, Mojaboswa Maje said these competitions started last year when BNSC held its AGM at Ghanzi. He said the idea of such competitions is to bring awareness about sports to students and also to widen their current affairs, learn about BNSC activities and its affiliates.
“A lot of questions were left unanswered and it highlight that students were not prepared. During the preliminaries on the 3rd of July, we invited all the 19 government primary schools and only 9 participated. Only two junior schools Tashatha and Goldmine turned up while in senior schools only Francistown senior was present. This is a disappointed, if all the schools could have brought the students, the competition were going to be tough,” said the disappointed Maje.
Maje said their aim is to do these kind of competitions annualy each time they hold anAGM. Sports master from Francistown Senior, Mmoloki Bopa also expressed his concern about the little knowledge students have on sports.
“Students only know about the sport they take part in. It became clear to me that they do not know more about BNSC, its activities and other sporting codes, they do not even know BISA is an affiliate of BNSC.” He said. In primary schools: Tefo Zongwa from Ikhutseng took position 1 with 13 pointS, followed by Olorato Molate from Phase 1V with 12 points and Tumelo Direng from Aerodrome with 12 points. Junior schools: position 1 Goldmine JSS Bakang Jori with 13 points, followed by Pritchard Mabutho with 3 points and Abigal Gaarongwe 1 point.
Senior schools: position 1 Tsholofelo Jackson from Francistown senior 10 points, Gofetamang Motlogelwa 7 points and Prince Malema 6 points. Position 1 individual were awarded with a trophy and a laptop, note book for position 2 and desktop computer for position 3. The winning schools went away with a business computer and 4 in 1 multi function printer. BNSC was sponsored by Tati River lodge with trophies worth over P9000.00
