Botswana’s first online radio station BadnewsFm went online two weeks ago. The project is the brainchild of two young twin brothers, Takujay and Cousy. It is located in Extension 10 Gaborone, in the same premises that used to house Botswana Musicians Union two years ago. The two young men seem to have hit the road running with this first of a kind radio station in Botswana after running a recording studio for a while.Their music production includes work on the new HT CD. The presenter line-up includes the likes of Hennymaps, Kimwizzy, Chrispin and HT. With a lil guidance, this station can become a favourite for the youth who have access to the internet!

Kalakuta Records, owned by Tex, hit the bigtime with Dr Vom’s massive hit Thobane a few years ago. Since then the label has not looked back in this dog eat dog world of music industry. The label has delved into Kwaito and Borankana(Traditional music) with some success. Tex has just dropped a hot new 12 track wedding songs CD. Produced by Tex and T Bouz at Kalakuta Records with sound engineer Lame, this CD could quickly become a must for a lot of weddings around the country, especially with the tunes Ngwetsi, Wedding Day, Makoti Ke Dinako, Senamarena and Thabeng Tsele. It gets 8 out of 10 from Monnamogol!

High flying eBotswana was officially launched yesterday (Thursday) at The Grand Palm Hotel. The channel, which is fast becoming popular after South Africa’s popular etv acquired a stake in it has some exciting programmes like AfroVibes, The Foundation, both of which are produced locally. It also carries SA’s popular soapies Scandal and Rhythm City. Wrestling, The biggest Loser and the English Premiership and Champions league football are also part of the exciting line-up in this channel. There is also round the clock eNews Channel. Hopefully the channel will add more locally produced programmes and a local news slot soon. eBotswana poses good competition for Btv which is good news for Batswana who have had a lack of variety on TV. The channel might also go into the Dstv system meaning that it would be available through out the country via decoders!

Gorgeous Kaelo tasted the pain of elimination from My Star last Friday. The young lady who showed some great promise during the auditions never really took off in the competition. She had struggled with picking the right songs for her voice that finally put her in the bottom two. Battling against Lucia, she was outclassed and voted out by two votes to one by the judges. However, the night did not live up to the past two week’s super performances as contestant after contestant failed to reproduce their past scintillating performances. Kgalalelo continues to be the toast of the competition as she has been the most consistent and overall well rounded contestant.

Botswana’s super group, Culture Spears continues to make the country proud five years after the release of their debut album, Korone. The group has not released new material since its award winning Khudu album two years ago but that has not stopped its members from staying at the top of the food chain. The Kabelo led crew has in the past two years taken a break from traditional music to experiment with Disco and Monnamogolo must add, with great success. Eke Ntolo, has released two smashing albums that have been some of the best selling in the country. However, the group has not totally abandoned traditional music. In a week or so, they will re-release their re-packaged first album Korone with an additional 2010 World Cup song as a thank you for the huge support they still receive from South Africa!

Monnamogolo finally got his hands on the F.eU double CD last week. It is no wonder that the duo, Fresh and Euphonic are regarded as the top two leading DJs in South Africa. The CD is loaded with some super tracks. The thirty track CD will take fans of this duo through a journey of thumping house tunes. Batswana can be proud that one of our producers Kucj J is featured on the album. Monnamogolo’s favourite tune has to be Show Dem(Chris Sen Remix) by Euphonic featuring Tyren. Get yourself a copy. Yarona Fm’s PP wa Montsabaisabosigo has landed a deal to distribute his popular show on the cellphones. Simply dial 17655 and pay fee of P5 for updates daily, big up PP! Vee has gotten the attention of the president with his new album Zaza. Reports say he got the president’s audience after a super performance in Francistown!
