Botswana Football Association (BFA) president Tebogo Sebego is not pleased with the treatment they get from the mother body Botswana National Sports Council when sourcing funds.
Sebego said this during BNSC Annual General Meeting at Kanye recently.
He said as BFA requesting for funds is like a favour. He said they literally beg for assistance especially when their national teams are preparing and playing major games.
“Attitude we get really demoralize us, and BNSC needs to show proper commitment to their vision 2028.
Development of sports will not come cheap, there is no how we can get funds for competition and not for preparations because we will not excel.
Athletes do not prepare for their games because of lack of funds yet we expect them bring medals,” he said.
Responding to Sebego’s concern BNSC chairman Solly Reikeletseng said there is shortage of funds.
He revealed that due to challenges of funding, the council has halted the preparations for AUSC region five under 20 games until they get confirmation on funding.
When giving a keynote address acting Minister of Youth Sports and Culture Vincent Seretse said he expects the council to set targets for delivery in line with the vision 2028 strategic plan.
He was worried that for the past two years the council has not come up with targets for monitoring progression made in implementing the strategy.
“I will be meeting regularly with the executive committee to monitor your performance and government will continue to invest in sports, in recognition of the important role it plays in the socio economic development”.
“Botswana National Sport Commission bill has gone through parliament.
Regulations are under way and once they have been gazette we will commence implementation of the act.” Said Seretse
