Singer set to release new single
Controversial poet turned musician Berry Heart has been hard at work in the recording studio and is set to release her latest single ‘Di palameletse’.
The new, upbeat track, which is completely unique from anything the diverse artist has released before, will hit radio airwaves next week.
In an exclusive interview with Voice Entertainment, Heart was keen to reveal the inspiration behind her latest offering.
“The concept Di palameletse was really just a saying I had on my feeds on social media. It was not until The Voice editor Emang Bokhutlo asked why I didn’t commercialise the saying when it hit me!
“I got up and immediately went to the studio and it worked like magic. In the song I mention the ladies that have been influential to my life and how they are the true embodiment of Di palameletse, which when loosely translated means to elevate,” she explained, adding that she would not be releasing an album this year but would be concentrating on singles instead.
The song marks a clear change in musical direction for Heart, who ‘broke the internet’ early last year with the nude cover of her first single, ‘Berry Heart for Dinner’, which featured local rapper ATI.
The picture caused a frenzy on social media and literally launched the artist born Kootshepile Motseonageng’s singing career.
The singer songwriter made further headlines last year, when she received six Botswana Musician Union (BOMU) awards nomination for her debut album ‘Kenya’.
Critics were of the view that the album embraces a foreign country and as such did not deserve to be nominated for the local awards, more especially in the year when the country celebrated its golden jubilee.
Meanwhile, when asked why she was not part of the line up at last week’s historic Tlatsa Lebala event, the singer replied, “On the day I was caught up with other projects but I was there in spirit. I have fully endorsed the concept from the word go and I am proud that my fellow artists were able to fill up the stadium.”
