15 contestants battle it out on the ramp
The second annual Mr and Miss Beauty Albinism is once again upon us and has been scheduled for next Friday.
The pageant, which will be hosted at Botho College under the theme ‘Beauty that Closes the Stigma Gap’, aims to support the Albinism community in their fight against discrimination.
A total of 15 contestants will walk down the ramp on May 24, with 10 female and five male participants.
The contenders were selected following a three-city tour by organisers in search of a successor to the reigning Queen, Ditsame Bannabotlhe.
Voice Entertainment caught up with one of the pageant’s organisers, Philadelphia Motlaiile, who revealed that this year’s winner will represent Botswana at the Miss Albinism Africa in Zimbabwe in October.
“You would have noticed that although last year we had the male category there was not necessarily competition for anything. This year we decided to spice the event up by actually having them compete,” disclosed a visibly excited Motlaiile.
The organiser further added, “We travelled to three places, being Gaborone, Lobatse and Kanye in search of this year’s contestants. We of course hope to be able to travel the country in future with funds permitting.”
Indeed, lack of finances has already taken its toll on this year’s competition, as Motaille ruefully highlighted.
“Funds are a major hindrance because I can tell you right now we have two contestants who had made the cut but have since pulled out because they don’t have transport nor accommodation for the rehearsals.”
Entertainment on the day will be provided by Women of Jazz member, Punah Gabasiame-Molale, Poifo Motladiile, Kabelo Eric as well as Young Prince of ‘Sadi Dikgaka’ fame just to mention a few.
Whilst the contestants will engage in bootcamp training next week, entrance for the event is standing at P100, P150 double ticket and P200 for VIP.
