Bareboleng
An old man who threatened to kill his wife for allegedly awakening him while fast asleep was thrown behind bars by a Francistown magistrate courts, on Friday last week.
Atholang Bareboleng (68) from Nata village could not believe his ears when the magistrate instructed that he be remanded in custody until the police were complete with investigations into the threat to kill charge laid against him.
“I can’t understand why the police are interfering into this matter. I have been with this woman for ages and she knows quite well that if there is a problem at home, my in laws are always available to reconcile us,” Bareboleng said explaining that even the allegation against him was not true.
The court heard how the angry pensioner threatened to kill his wife after he was disturbed from a sleep in the middle of the night at his Nata home on Thursday last week. Although he denied the charge, Bareboleng allegedly said, “Is this what you are awakening me for? I am going to kill you today.”
State prosecutor inspector Paul Bingo said the old man should be kept behind bars, expressing fears that Bareboleng might accomplish his mission of killing his wife if granted bail.
It was then that chief magistrate Kenneth Obeng ordered that the pensioner be remanded in custody for two weeks when he would be brought again in court for mention.
Outside court, Bareboleng told The Voice that it was not fair for him to be caged without the consultation of his in laws.
“I married my wife long time ago and have six grown up children. Some of them even have children who are also married and I don’t know what there are going to say when they hear that their grandfather is behind bars,” said the old man adding that his wife should not have invited the police since the fight was a mere family affair.
