Tobane residents petition Khama and De Graaf over assistant minister’s behaviour
Tobane residents who recently sat in shock over assistant minister Oreeditse Molebatsi’s insulting meeting have demanded a meeting with President Seretse Khama Ian Khama and minister of agriculture, Christian De Graaf.
Reliable sources have revealed that those in Gaborone are already consulting with relevant authorities on what action to take against the assistant minister of agriculture.
“He (Molebatsi) has insulted our parents and he is undermining our chieftainship. We want action to be taken against him. We are not going to let this thing to just die,” said one lady who only revealed herself as Boineelo.
“My mother called and told me that Molebatsi has insulted them immediately so I was not shocked when I saw the story in the papers. There is no way they are going to do some cover ups. The President must suck this guy from cabinet. He is an embarrassment to our government,” added Boineelo.
It has also since emerged that members of the Directorate of Intelligence Services were in the village on July 20 to investigate the issue and interviewed some people mostly the civil servants and the headmen.
“Yes it is true there were here and we told them what happened on that day,” said one headman who spoke on condition of anonymity, speaking about the day three weeks ago when the assistant minister addressed a Kgotla meeting.
In fact, the issue is so hot that at a funeral on Saturday, some took offence to the area councillor Leonard Mosweu asking all village committees members to meet “to discuss what happened during minister’s meeting”
The funeral director, Buti Mabengano jumped in and cut short the councillor’s call, to the approval of the mourners, that he could not be selective, as, “Phutego e re ama rotlhe (this meeting affects us all.”
So on Monday the villagers met, and instructed Mosweu to petition De Graaf and the president on the matter.
It seems it is not the first time Molebatsi is found wanting by the villagers in his constituency.
At a recent Kgotla meeting Tshokwe, the assistant minister is alleged to have told one elderly man, Oathotse Sesupeng, that “you were supposed to stand behind me while I am addressing these people.”
Meanwhile, Molebatsi was ordained a pastor by ZCC in Moria, South Africa over the President Day holidays.

That’s definitely not the resposibilty of DISS! What makes you all be sure that those people were from DISS? Was that confirmed with known DISS leaders? In the era of claim and countreclaim with attempt to tarnish people’s name, what makes you think those people were from DISS?
