BURNT DOWN: Grain storage structure
A 57–year- old man from Maitengwe village has been thrown behind bars for attacking his wife with clenched fist before setting their huts on fire.
Thaa Tafa allegedly went out of control on Monday evening and attacked his wife right in front of their children. The accused man’s children tried in vain to restrain their father until neighbours who were alerted by the woman’s scream came to her rescue.
Tafa who was said to be behaving like a possessed animal allegedly revealed that he was going to burn down all the houses in the yard.
He then allegedly produced a matchbox, streaked a match and torched the family huts, and a grain storage structure. Tafa’s children and neighbours managed to put down the fire on the huts but the fire consumed the grain storage with everything inside.
Tafa’s son told The Voice that his father also threatened to attack them with a knobkerrie, accusing them of interrupting him from accomplishing his mission. “He just came and started harassing our mother, before assaulting her. After people managed to open the house to free her, he armed himself with a knobkerrie and threatened to attack us,” the boy said

Detective Assistant Superintendent Obesitswe Batsima of Tutume police confirmed the incident and revealed that Tafa was being held as a suspect. He added that the accused man’s wife was treated for minor injuries and released from hospital.
“We are currently investigating the man in connection with the structure which was burnt in his home,” Batsima said adding that Tafa would be taken before court this week for possible charges of arson and malicious damage to property.
