HAND THAT GIVETH: The donation

The Botswana Huaren (Chinese) Golf Association (BOHGA) held a successful annual Chinese charity golf tourney at the Gaborone Golf Club last week Friday.
Teams at Friday’s tourney were made up of men, ladies and mixed who braved the scorching sun to play all in the name of charity, where P10 000 was donated to the Botswana Golf Union towards the development of the junior golfer. BOHGA Secretary General, Miles Nan said the golf day was a major success.
He said golf is a wonderful sport that needs perseverance, determination and an elastic patience if one has to be an international golfer, adding that Batswana should take golf seriously in order to compete internationally.Nan noted that BOHGA has mandated itself with providing a golf sports programme for Chinese and local golfers in Botswana.
He said among some of its aims, BOHGA seeks to promote, popularize and develop golf in Botswana as well as involve more youngsters in the game. “We as BOHGA want to provide knowledge ad technique of golf to Botswana citizens. Furthermore, we also want to strengthen the friendship, cooperation and communication between the Chinese and the local society,” said Miles Nan, Secretary General of BOHGA, organizers of the annual (2010) Chinese Charity Golf Day. “Through this golf tourney, we also want to help eradicate poverty and help the handicapped through different kinds of charitable activities.” 
Nan noted that BOHGA has got the great support from both the Chinese living in Botswana and local citizens. “BOHGA members have participated in many golf competitions both in and out of the country and we successfully held the first Chinese golf competition in 2009. As BOHGA, we pan to make more efforts in contributing towards charity.”
The Chairperson of BOHGA, Lin Yizheng thanked everybody who played a role in making the golf tourney a success. He applauded companies and associations for making the event possible. “I would like to thank our sponsors for this event. The response has been overwhelming and I thank you and urge you to keep on supporting us,” Yizheng said before presenting a P10 000 cheque to the Botswana Golf Union.
President of the Botswana Golf Union, Dr. Andrew Hall thanked BOHGA for the P10 000 donation saying the latter will go a long way in the development of junior golfers.
