Two Batswana have made it to the top 30 in the whole world under the Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) award category organised by Junior Chambers International (JCI).
Botswana had submitted seven entrants under both the TOYP and the JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur
Award (JCI CYEA).
Human rights lawyer Uyapo Ndadi entered the competition under the category of Contribution to children, world peace and human rights while Baboletse Akoonyatse entered under the category of Medical innovation. The two will battle it out for the top 10 slots with 28 other outstanding young people from other countries worldwide. The final adjudication is expected to be complete by
September 1 2010.
“This are interesting developments that confirm our belief that Botswana has a lot of talent that
needs to be put out there to shine. We hope with this, more Batswana will work harder to give
out their best to improve the lives of lesser fortunate country men and women. We need to
look at this awards as cherry on top, as the greatest reward should be derived from seeing
someone you helped leading a better life and also helping another to be the same,” Said Malaki Kereeditse the National President of JCI Botswana,.
This is a second year running that Batswana have reached the top 30 of the awarding. In 2009 Tshepang Mabaila and Kitso Masi reached the same level, with Masi going all the way to being one of the 10 outstanding young people of the world for 2009.
The official ceremony for the awards will be held in Osaka, Japan in November where over 115 countries will be represented.
