The independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says they ready for this year’s general election.
IEC Secretariat Gabriel Seeletso told the media this week that election materials, ballot papers and boxes are ready.
“We have ensured that marking boxes on the ballot papers are separated enough. This time around when one marks their party of choice, even if the marking is to fallout of the box, it will not fall into the next candidate’s,” he said.
He said this is done in order to ensure that people are eligible to vote and have come to the right polling stations.
“This is to show you that yes we are ready and we all know that this is a national project and everybody’s business. However we have to note that at the end of the day the commission has to account to the nation at large.”
Seeletso discouraged vandalism on campaign posters saying the posters are expensive.
On other issues the commission is faced with shortage of transportation to cover all the 2606 polling stations.
“We have even gone beyond CTO to local authorities to borrow us cars for this one big event for Batswana.”
