Drums rolled and guitars strummed as local musicians belted out their best on Saturday evening to mark the highlight of the ‘Dijo tsa rona’ food festival organised by Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB).
The sold out event that was held at Botswana Craft started off on a somewhat low note with artists including South African guest artist Stoan Seatle of Bongo Maffin taking turns to warm up the patrons to a night of musical bliss.
But it wasn’t until veteran folklore veteran Ndingo Johwa took to the stage that the enthusiastic crowd, comprising of young and old, rose and stomped their feet amid whistle and ululation.
The line up of musicians who also added a variety of flavour to the event included the likes of Samantha Mogwe, Kabo Leburu, Zeus and Team Distant.
The event was predominantly a food festival that featured a large variety of traditional food produced in the country and according to Kushatha Modiakgotla of BAMB, the event was by all accounts a success.
“The tickets were sold out by Friday and this top us was a positive response to the initiative,” she said and added that they had not yet decided if the event would be held annually.
