Woman attempts suicide over BDP freebie
A siblings’ fight over the Botswana Democratic Party(BDP) campaign t-shirt in Maun has tragically ended with one of the sisters hospitalized after she twice attempted suicide.
TsaoneJuramo, 29 was so hurt by her sister, Semakaleng’s accusations that she stole a BDP freebie from Maun East parliamentary candidate Kosta Markus lavish launch on Monday afternoon that she decided to end her life.
The upset woman first overdosed on ARV’s, which made her very ill, but when the pills did not kill her she disappeared into the nearby bush to hang herself with a jersey.
Juramo’s mission however aborted after a family member found her hanging from a tree and cut her loose just in time to save her life.
Speaking from Letsholathebe Hospital where she was recuperating on Wednesday, Juramo explained that she fought with her sister, Semakaleng, 31, over a missing BDP campaign T-Shirt, and was upset when her mother defended the older sister in the dispute.
Barely moving her head because of neck injuries she suffered during the attempted suicide, Juramo said,“My sister was accusing me of stealing her t-shirt, but instead of listening to the whole story our mother took sides and accused me of stealing the freebie.
I then decided to take my life. My mother is the one who stole the t-shirt.”
The mother of four said that the t-shirt fight made the already strained relationship between the two sisters and their mum worse that it was before.
“Am I that useless to be suspected of stealing a free T-shirt when in-fact I already had two from the launch.
Actually to them I am not only useless but as good as dead,” she said pointing out that since her admission neither her sister nor her mother had paid her a single hospital visit.
Confirming the attempted suicide Maun Police Station Commander Superintendent KenanaoBadumetse said they were still investigating the incident.
