Topo Piet completes Gunners move
In the same week that Extension Gunners celebrated a P2 million deal with its new owners, the club has strengthened their squad with the signing of Nico United’s Topo Piet.
The skillful winger has been on the radar of other big guns and the completion of the deal will now see Gunners breathing a sigh of relief as they go on the hunt for more recruits.
Piet has been linked with the Peleng boys since the beginning of the month, but his manager has remained tight-lipped over the issue thus far.
Monty Gagomokgwa has said that all he wants is to get the best deal for his player.
“I care enough about my players that before getting into any deal I make sure that they will get enough game time and their welfare is well taken care.
There is nothing more painful than to see a player who was a regular in their previous team being wasted on the bench.
But also they have to prove themselves since competition for places is tough at the top clubs,” he said.
Despite Gagomokgwa’s reluctance to confirm the move, Voice Sport has been reliably informed that the deal was completed on Tuesday night.
The player is reported to have signed a two-year contract.
Gunners chairman Kitso Dlamini was more forthcoming in conforming that they have indeed secured the player’s services.
“Though I cannot shed light on details of the contract, but yes we have signed him for two years and both parties are happy with the deal.
He will be an excellent addition to our squad.”
The chairman went on to say: “As Gunners go into the 2014/15 season to compete and challenge for honours, we will recruit good players since we have the resources to help us achieve this.”
Piet, who won the Players Player of the Season award this year, has been the pillar of Nico United since he joined the club three years ago form Killer Giants.
At that time he almost joined the 2013/14 champion Township Rollers, but Nico managed to convince him otherwise and he stayed for one more season.
This time around there was little Majombolo could do as Gunners came with guns blazing and were determined to snatch Piet before teams such as Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Gaborone United could beat them to it.
Topo’s performance during the 2012/13 season earned him a national call up together with club mate Gift Moyo.
For their part Nico United are in the process of signing Tafic defender Bhasero, one of the few players to have made an impression during their relegation season.
