Khupe calls it quits at Collins Newman law firm
Top legal hawk, head of property division and partner at Collins Newman and Company, Laurence Khupe has resigned.
In an interview on Tuesday, Khupe dispelled rumours flying thick and fast that he was fired.
Khupe who is leaving the firm after 18 years of an illustrious career said that contrary to insinuations that he had been pushed out, the parting with his long time colleague, Parks Tafa and other partners was amicable.
“It is true that I will be leaving the law firm soon. My decision has nothing to do with insinuations that I am being pushed out.
It is for personal reasons that I have decided to step down from practising law to pursue other business interests,” he said.
On Tuesday evening allegations were rife that Laurence had been fired and humiliated last week Friday when the law firm allegedly pulled a nasty surprise on him by demanding back the keys to his luxurious company car and called a cab for him to go home.
“I am surprised that you can even think that of me. I have many cars at my disposal and I don’t use cabs as a means of transport,” he quipped.
Collins Newman and Company is famed for high profile clients including Government, the Botswana Democratic Party and President Ian Khama among many others.
