WALK IN MY SHOES
Paralympic Association of Botswana in conjunction with Vonse Sports and Entertainment Management will host a fundraising dinner on July 26th.
The main aim of the event will be to raise money for sports clinics with the goal of training disabled athletes to elite sporting status to enable them to participate in the World Paralympics Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
This event under the theme ‘Walk in my shoes” will be highlighted by able bodied dinner guests who will be asked to walk in disabled’s person’s shoes for seven minutes.
The guests will be blindfolded, ear plugged, have a limb prevented from functioning or not allowed to talk.
Proposed guest of honour is multiple award winning South African Olympian and swimmer Natalie de Toit.
Just when she was supposed to be getting ready for pre-parties in Rio, traditional artist Rejoice Gaonakala aka Jojo’s dream was shuttered.
The Mpatiseng hit maker announced last year through her Manager Gilbert “PP” Seagile that she was billed to perform in Brazil during the 2014 World Cup.
A South African Agent had apparently convinced PP and his artist that everything was fine until last week.
“When he told me that we would be paying for our tickets I knew something was not right. I was later informed that we were nearly conned by schemers who are targeting unsuspecting Africans hoping to make it big in Brazil,” Seagile told Big Weekend.
MmaGauta nailed it last Thursday.
It was never in doubt that she is talented but its sad that locals are never given an opportunity to shine like the stars they truly are.
Maxy’s performance during the opening ceremony of the Youth Games made me wonder why we still need foreign acts to headline our biggest events.
A rising star like A.T.I should be opening for an outdated group like Bongo Maffin and not the other way round.
Somebody out there please give these local stars a platform to really show us what they are made off.
Let’s get rid of this mentality where locals are always treated like second best. Perhaps this is what the late Spencer and Metal Orizon meant by ‘myopic enslavement.’
