Public service employees will be released on Thursday, 22nd May 2014 at 1400hrs to enable them to attend the official opening ceremony of the 2nd Africa Youth Games.
The countdown is almost over as Botswana hosts African Youth Games: the biggest sporting event the country has ever hosted
Botswana is set to make history as it hosts 53 African countries, bringing in more than 2 500 athletes who will set the city of Gaborone ablaze for 10 days from May 22.
The opening ceremony will be beamed live on Supersport and all spectators are expected to be seated at 4 p.m to pave way for the arrival of the President, Lt Gen. Sir Seretse Khama Ian Khama.
The games will be hallowed with 50 main dancers and 150 young Batswana amateur dancers, showcasing contemporary, Tswana dances of Setapa and Phatis incorporated with modern dances by South Africa’s Somizi Mhlongo and the local dance devotee, Andrew Kola of the Mophato Dance Theatre.
In addition, a theme song was composed to welcome Africa to Botswana.
The song for the games, titled Celebrate Africa is an acoustic melody composed by the ever so zealous Tshepo Lesole.
It comprised three artists: Vee with his robust kwaito twist to it, and Zeus who offers his familiarity with a rap mixture to the song.
They are accompanied by song bird, Princess.
