Gaborone Block 7 will soon have its own outdoor park.
The park is estimated to cost P222 000.00 including both construction and equipment.
The park, the first of its kind in Botswana, is being promoted by a company called Agenda 42 owned by Lets Sithole.
In an interview Sithole said he approached Gaborone City Council (GCC) for land and he was given land in Block 7 to utilise.
“GCC has agreed to give us land for that recreational facility.
This is a community based project. It will benefit the whole community as people are expected to train free of charge,” he said.
He said that as result his company is looking for sponsorship through donors from companies and well-wishers.
“We have so far received P30 000 from Symphony Health for the construction.
We are short of about P192 000.00 for the project,” he said.
He further said the outdoor fitness centre will cater for all aspects of physical training.
He added that to raise the remaining capital a 180-kilometre sponsored walk through the Makgadikgadi Pans will take place.
“We are expecting to cover the 180 kilometres in three days.
That is from Mosu to Kubu Island, then on to Sowa Town and Nata,” he said.
Sithole announced when fully operational the park will create jobs for the youth and some fitness trainers.
He mentioned that people who cannot afford a gym can also take advantage of the outdoor park.
“People are progressively becoming overweight and that is a worry from a health perspective.
We want people who cannot afford a gym to be able to exercise.”
