Botswana Cricket Association has donated 22 bags of equipment to the North East and West primary schools meant to boost the growth of the sport in the region.
Recipient, Zonal Cricket Coordinator, Nchidzi Denis, said the donation was exactly what the schools has long been waiting for.
He said while some teachers were taught some basic coaching skills, it took time to implement the cricket programme due to lack of equipment.
Denis said although some primary schools in the southern region especially in Gaborone had Cricket leagues, schools from his region never participated in the game which has become a global sporting activity.
“To us the donation is the beginning of a new era.
Teachers who whom have been equipped with the necessary cricket skills have been waiting for this opportunity,” he said.
He also revealed that interested pupils have already registered for the sport and with the needed equipment the association should expect to hear positive results very soon.
Meanwhile the North East Regional Coordinator, Raymond Themba said cricket in the area has been neglected although it was also part of the sporting activities offered in some schools “We are very thankful for the donation and we hope the pupil would also use them wisely,” Themba said.
