Botswana Volleyball Federation(BVF) is mourning the death of two Orapa Volleyball Club players. Bushe Moitlhobogi and Baagi Onneetse died in a fatal car accident in the early hours of Sunday.
Orapa Police Station Commander Superintendent Badirwang Kabo confirmed the incident. He said the two were driving a BMW car when they collided with a tractor just few kilometers from the mine’s east gate.
“The two were confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital while the tractor driver was treated for minor injuries and released,” said Kabo.
The Orapa Police boss told the Voice in an interview that the accident was unlike anything they have ever experienced in Orapa.
“The maximum speed within town is 80km/h but it shows that they were travelling at very high speed,” said Badirwang.
As Batswana will be travelling to different places during the festive season his advice is that they should not drink and drive.
He also urged drivers to travel during the day when it is easier to spot potential dangers from far.
According to the statement from BVF, the two have been very instrumental in their team during the Mascom league and have both played for the under 20 national team in the past years.
Onnetse will be laid to rest in Paje while Moitlhobogi will be buried in Mmadikola on Saturday.
