When Extension Gunners take on Nico United at Selebi Phikwe stadium on Thursday, former Township Rollers goalkeeper coach Thabo Motang will be sitting on the technical bench.
Motang started work at the Lobatse side on Wednesday morning after the departure of troubled coach China Matlhaku.
“Yes we have appointed Motang after Matlhaku tendered his resignation on Sunday,” said Gunners Chairman Kitso Dlamini.
The pair who were unceremoniously dismissed By Rollers in June have been given a new mandate of steering Gunners to the promised land.
Their dismissal from Rollers came as a shock to a lot of football fans, especially Motang who was considered a selfless servant of the team.
The former national team goalkeeper will take his first assignment away to Nico in a Mascom Top 8 clash. United who lost two matches in a row are however not easy pickings and Motang could be in for a rude awakening.
The arrival of Thabo at Gunners is perhaps one of the teams’ biggest swoops. Motang has years of experience as a keeper and goal keeper coach at the top level.
He has nurtured among others Lesego Moeng, Platinum Stars keeper Kabelo Dambe and Rollers current keeper Mwapule Masule.
“We hope that Gunners will get back to winning ways beginning this Thursday,” said Dlamini.
Kickoff for is 3pm.
