In its endeavor to get involved in the industry, Limkokwing University this week gave three hundred thousand pula worth of scholarship to a youthful contemporary radio station, Yarona FM.
Speaking at the hand over in Gaborone, Limkokwing Regional Director; Corporate and Media Relations Mercy Thebe noted that the radio station has played a major role by taking the University brand to the people and thus helping towards the growth and development of the creative technology university.
“I am extremely honored to make this special announcement that the founder and president of Limkokwing University has afforded the Limkokwing University Botswana an opportunity to sponsor yarona FM with three Degree programmes scholarships worth a whooping P 300 000.00 for the 2014 academic year.
This is our way of saying we take our role and mandate in this relationship very seriously and want to cement this partnership by giving back to the radio station that has played a major role by taking our brand to the people and thus helping towards the growth and development of this university in Botswana,” said Thebe.
The university has formal relationship with various industries where every faculty has a team of industry captains (Industry advisors) who meet with faculty personnel periodically to discuss issues of common interest such as the curriculum, teaching approaches and emerging industry needs which need a shift in the curriculum.
Thebe went on to disclose that through the Limkokwing Entrepreneurship Acceleration Platform (LEAP) the university allows industry projects to be brought into campus and injected into the teaching curriculum.
“At Limkokwing University, we pride ourselves of this unique approach to education and training and that is why we are aggressively forging ahead with strategic links and partnerships with various and relevant industries.
Such partnerships facilitate ease of student’s placement in relevant industries where they acquire world of work experiences,” she said.
For his part, Yarona FM Station Manager, David Moepeng expressed gratitude towards the scholarship and emphasized that such will be used to upgrade some of his employees.
