Ramonyaku has just completed a DVD covering songs from his debut album ‘Letota la ga Khama.’
A member of the popular Tripple R group under Kulenyane Studios, the Serowe born artist is a talented entertainer.
I have to be honest; when I reviewed the CD a couple of months ago I was not entirely pleased, it was just another traditional album.
However after watching the DVD I’m totally won over; Ramonyaku is a special talent.
The title track tells a popular story about Ngwato females.
If you didn’t know Bangwato girls, especially from Serowe are famous for their booty and this is what he sings about.
For as long as I can remember, if you are packing you are probably from GaMmabesi.
Ramonyaku explores this topic on the video; with well thought-out lyrics and choreography to match.
Other songs include Selina, Re Batswana, Kurubele and Eli lamasabata.
The video gets 8 out of 10.
Local jazz bassist Aubrey Woki has just dropped his second album titled ‘Money’.
This is a follow-up to his 2009 debut album ‘Gaborone’ which received raving reviews in the media.
The title track Gaborone was on heavy rotation on RB1 and even made it to private radio stations jazz programmes.
With his second offering Woki has upped his game.
The quality is unmistakable.
Perhaps it is the reason he was confident to name the album money; this scarce commodity maybe on its way to the Woki family.
Just like on the first album he features his wife Masego on the vocals.
The nine track album also features Resego and Kesego Woki.
While it is a beautiful album, I have never been too sure about Woki’s vocal capabilities, there are times I just wish I could hear more of his guitar.
The album gets 7 out of 10.
He is known for his label “Lekoko Enetertainment” together with South Africa’s Hip Hop Pantsula.

The Hip-Hop scene is forever changing, but the more it changes the more it stays the same.
At the end of the day you are still going to have Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Scar and your Kast. The young pretenders can sit down.
Talking about Kast, he is at it again with his fourth highly anticipated studio album ‘King’ featuring hit single BW Party which was launched last year.
This was later followed by singles BDP and ‘O tla jewa ka mpama’ respectively and now the lead single ‘Dhoom Machale’ which simple means ‘lets rock’.
This album is expected to take Kast back to the top as one of the biggest and vastly followed artists in the country and take his music to the rest of the world.
There will be a massive launch party planned for Saturday 02 November at Game City Rooftop.
The launch will feature South Africa’s award winning Hip-hop artist ‘AKA’ as well as his highly celebrated counterpart Da Les.
The event will also feature top local musicians across the country and across genres being; Mel D, S.C.A.R, Juju Boy, MMP, K-Boss, Third Mind, Apollo D and many others. Tickets sell for P80 or P120 at the gate.
Motswako rapper HT is on a level of his own.
When it comes to rapping in the vernacular, HT has no match. His latest offering titled ‘The journey’ is a masterpiece!
The 13 track album from Rimzy Productions is a must have.
With this one you don’t need the skip button.
High Tower takes you through his life journey with some flawless ‘Tswana’ rapping, hardcore lyrics that will have people talking for some time to come.
My favourite track is ‘Celebrate’ which he performed on Flavour Dome this past Friday.
The album also features a whole host of stars including Lizibo, Chub Heights, Dj Khenzo and Thato Chuma.
Get a copy and be inspired, you don’t need a dictionary for this one. The album gets 10 out of 10.
