They are undoubtedly the best Choral music ensemble in the country.
KTM Choir will celebrate their 20 years anniversary on Saturday 26th at an event dubbed “Local Composers’ Show.”
The annual show which is on its third year will be a bit different this year.
While in the past local composers from all walks of life were celebrated, this time around the choir will focus on compositions from their former and current composers.
These include compositions from the founding father Kgalemang Motsete, Gomolemo Motswaledi, Luka Disho, Mike Modise, Boatametse Bolokwe, Opuso Phetwe, Omphemetse Chimbombi and Phillimon Mataela.
According to the Choir’s PRO, they will perform a total of 33 songs from these renowned composers.
“With an orchestra, there is no doubt that this will be an awesome show,” the PRO said. Tickets for the 7pm show sell for P200.
Mrepa wa Eloyi’s recent single ‘Dilo di chenchile’ featuring A.T.I and Dr Vom has catapulted the young rapper to new heights.
The song has received massive airplay on local radio stations and the video has also been on rotation on Botswana television.
It is one of the well balanced production that has successfully fused Dikhwaere, Dancehall and hip hop.
The video sends one into nostalgia; back in the days before Dr Vom likened himself to Moses.
If this single is a sign of things to come from Mrepa wa Eloyi, then the future looks bright.
His self titled single is a statement from the young man whom many likened to A.T.I. In fact in the song he mentions that being ‘like someone’ does not necessarily mean you are that person.
Perhaps this is Spiza trying to get out of A.T.I’s shadow.
There is no doubt that the young man is a talented vocalist, now coupled with his energy on stage; Spiza is destined for the big league.
The Botswana Musicians Union annual awards are back this December.
Friday the 13 has been set as the day musicians will be honored for their hard labour. The awards go back to their natural home GICC.
“We want this coming awards to show what we are capable of; we are bringing glitz and glamour back,” said BOMU Secretary General Pagson Ntsie.
Meanwhile Ntsie has said they are still in negotiations with Btv to find ways of broadcasting the awards which could be of benefit to both parties.
“Btv has been broadcasting the awards for free and we feel that should come to an end,” said Ntsie.
Well it looks like it is going to be another television rights fiasco.
Wizards are back again with a festive smasher ‘Sakula.’
This group has made it a habit to drop dance floor hits every festive season.
They gave us Mokento which became a national anthem.
I had an opportunity to listen to the latest track which sounds more like house kwasa which is the usual Wizards sound but the tempo bends more to Durban house.
The Group’s spokesperson, Lloyd Mwape says the reception for their single has been amazing and they are already billed to launch around Gabs and surrounding areas before end of this month.
“This is not your usual Wizards and we have the best dance video in the country which is already showing on Botswana Television,” he said.
Sakula means shake it and is a lingo that originates from Zambia.
They feature Mel-D on the song and the full album will be out just before Christmas day.
It looks like heavy metal band Skinflint will finally realize their dream of taking Europe by storm.
The local band is scheduled to perform in Sweden from 31st October and will be back home in the first week of November.
According to lead vocalist and guitarist Juice Sbrana they have four shows lined up.
“We will play in Umca at a venue called Scharinska alongside a Swedish band called Dead Alkeberg,” said Sbrana.
On 2nd November they will perform in Stockholm while other shows will be confirmed.
The trip was made possible by Selam, an organization from Sweden that heard about Botswana’s rock culture and were impressed with what they saw.
“Their representative came here in May and was impressed with the fact that we already have four albums.
Our Youtube hits also swayed things our way,’ said Sbrana.
The group also said their German base distribution company Pure Steel has made it possible for them to be considered for the tour.
This could be Skinflint’s biggest break and Big Weekend will keep you informed about the entire trip; rock on!
